Everything You Need to Know About Diamonds

Diamond FAQs

Chemically and optically they are the same material: crystallised carbon, with the same hardness and the same brilliance. A natural diamond formed in the Earth over millions of years and is rarer; a lab grown diamond is created in a few weeks under controlled conditions and, for the same characteristics, costs considerably less. To the naked eye they are indistinguishable: only the certificate tells them apart.

They are the four criteria used to grade a diamond: cut, colour, clarity and carat. Cut determines how much the stone sparkles, colour runs from D (colourless) towards yellow, clarity measures internal inclusions and carat indicates weight. No single one makes a beautiful diamond: it is the balance of all four that counts.

For round diamonds we select only 3EX stones, excellent in cut, polish and symmetry, or Ideal cut: these are the grades that return the most light. Fancy shapes (oval, pear, emerald…) have no official cut grade, which is why the cut filter switches off when you choose them.

It depends on the hand and the style more than on a number. On a slender hand even 0.70–1 ct looks substantial; above 1.5 ct the effect is truly striking. A practical tip: staying just below the round thresholds (0.90 rather than 1.00 ct) gives almost the same presence on the finger at a lower price.

Yes. Every diamond in our selection comes with a certificate from an independent gemmological laboratory, such as IGI or GIA, stating its shape, carat, colour, clarity and cut. You can open it directly from the diamond’s page before you choose.

From the first working day after your order, we send you a complimentary finger sizer and ring sizer; once you have them, we agree together on the size for production. If the ring does not fit after delivery, resizing is free within 10 days: you only cover any delivery costs.

Yes: from the setting page you can add a personalised engraving inside the band, a date, initials or a word that means something to you both.

Warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft toothbrush under the stone, where creams and dust build up; then rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh products such as chlorine and bleach, and take your ring off for sport or heavy work.
